I’m a Director of a care company – How can I prepare for my interview with the CQC?
I would just like to know as a Director of a care company for the interview with CQC what do I actually need to know, please? I’ve been in this line of work for 30 years and have decided to start up my own company as I feel there is a great need out there! I have a manager on board that has experience but I've never been a director before.
Thank you for your question. Regulation 5 in the Health and Social Care Act refers to the role of Directors. Its states that the intention of this regulation is to ensure that people who have director-level responsibility for the quality and safety of care, and for meeting the fundamental standards are fit and proper to carry out this important role. You don’t say in your email, how much day to day involvement you will have but I would suggest that you use your wealth of experience to help shape the business and set it up for success. You will need to make sure that whoever is your Nominated Individual has the skills and knowledge to meet Regulation 6. I would suggest as a starting point you are clear how your governance is going to operate, what quality framework will you have in place and when you recruit the workforce what values do you want them to have and uphold. You will also need to make sure that your management staff understand the Health and Social Care Act and how that applies to your service. I wish you luck with your new business.
