Changes made to ensure the policy and procedure meets the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008; Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infection for domiciliary care services.
The policy has been revised in accordance with the format of QCS policies. References have been made to legislation which reinforces the role of the Care Programme Approach in mental health services.
Addition of emphasis on well-being and edit of content including addition of preventative steps, update of protected Characteristics and deletion of ISA reference. Update with Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015 information. This policy has been converted to the new QCS format.
This is a new policy and procedure. It formally defines the steps to take to identify when somebody is at risk of choking whilst eating, and it defines the actions to take, and who should be involved in the management when issues are identified.
Converted to new QCS policy format, as well as adding a greater emphasis throughout on the decision specific nature of the Mental Capacity Act and its emphasis on finding the least restrictive option when making decisions for someone who lacks mental capacity.
This policy has been converted into the new format. It has also been updated with the addition of ‘Best Interest Decision’ information throughout policy and additional legislation (this is not direct legislation, but does impact this policy).
References have been updated in this policy to reflect updated guidance from the Department of Health and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Updated to reflect the new ‘Accessible Information Standard’, and the requirement to have systems implemented by 31st July 2016.
Expanded definition of communication difficulties, and reference has been made to the importance of communication in assessing a person’s mental capacity to make a particular decision. Converted to new policy format.
The Restraint Policy and Procedure has been extensively updated with additional information regarding the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty.
