Sex, Sexuality and Relationships Policy and Procedure

Clinical Governance Practice Management Region: | Reference: GCR20

This policy recognises the human right to express sexuality, gender preference and the right to be supported in a consensual sexual relationship without discrimination or negative impact – at work in primary care and as a Service User. It recognises LGBT people have specific health needs which it is clinically and cost effective to meet through confidential and informed professional doctor and nurse/Service User relationships built on mutual respect and trust. It also acknowledges the duty to
protect and safeguard Service Users and not confuse or mistake abuse through political correctness in any form. The title of this policy has been changed from ‘Sex and Sexuality Policy and Procedure’ to ‘Sex, Sexuality and Relationships Policy and
Procedure’. The procedures have been updated to reflect the Stonewall, CQC andRCN guidance. All references have been updated.
