What can we do if a member of staff feels unable to come to work yet we cannot furlough them? | QCS

Hi Tracy, we have a member of staff who is shielding, which is due to end on 30 June. We have been told we cannot furlough our staff, so what can we do if a member of staff feels unable to come to work? Thanks

You will not be alone in this scenario. The Government are due to send out further letters to each shielding group by 30 June providing further advice. If this suggests the employee should return to work and they remain unable to return there are options. These are:

  1. enable the employee to work from home
  2. the employee works within their team bubble whilst at work meeting the same few people and in an individual room where possible thus reducing the risk
  3. the employee requests and you agree on annual leave
  4. the employee requests and you agree on unpaid leave

It is important to note that for any staff member returning to and working in a workplace, there must be a risk assessment undertaken and appropriate PPE provided.
