Infection Control Management Systems for Medical Providers

The health of patients and staff may be compromised by failing to implement the right systems and policies. Consequently, it is important to manage all aspects of infection control and adopt an approach that exceeds acceptable minimum standards of safety. Shining some further light on this area, the Department of Health  issued ‘Decontamination of reusable medical devices in the primary, secondary and tertiary care sectors (NHS and Independent providers) – 2007 clarification and policy summary’. This states local decontamination should meet with the appropriate “essential requirements” of the Medical Devices Regulations 2002. The implication is medical practices should ensure that their policies give rise to the production and use of sterilized instruments for use with patients.
