The RCGP is the independent membership body for General Practitioners in the UK. Their aim is to promote excellence in primary healthcare, by representing their members and also by extension, their patients.
Their promotional work includes policy formation, taking part in key Government consultations and also in the work of other relevant bodies, whether statutory or otherwise. Aside from representing the interests of their members, they also work to improve GP education and training. They provide an MRCGP examination and have standards defined within a GP curriculum, all of which bolster the standards being achieved by GPs
