Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds leaders who want to take the next step in their career are being urged to register for an innovative Course.

QCS partner, Skills for Care has announced that registration is now open for its ‘Moving Up’ programme.

What is the Moving Up programme?

The programme is aimed at leaders who want to take the next step in their career, with an understanding of the specific barriers which people from a diverse background may face in progression.

Skills for Care data shows that while people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds make up 21% of the adult social care workforce, the same representation is not reflected in leadership roles.

The programme includes a mix of self-learning modules and live online sessions, and covers topics and skills including networking, building self-confidence, leadership skills, creating a personal brand, and identifying your own skills and weaknesses.

Additionally, it offers an opportunity to network with like-minded people in the sector, learn from others, and share experiences and ideas.

There will be two cohorts available for this year’s programme with the first starting on 15 September 2022 and the second on 10 October 2022.

The programme costs £750 +VAT, and employers can claim back £500 per participant through the Workforce Development Fund.

Improving career progression

Oonagh Smyth, CEO of Skills for Care said it was vital that there is ‘diverse representation’ in the social care workforce, particularly, in leadership roles which ‘we don’t have at the moment.’

She added: ‘Supporting employers to foster equality, diversity and inclusion within the workplace culture and supporting routes for progression is a key aim and our programme is a core part of that work.’
