Annual flu vaccinations are part of the biggest campaigns to reduce pressure on the NHS each winter. This year, the flu vaccination programme is expanded to protect the vulnerable due to coronavirus. Free flu vaccines are to be made available additionally for people aged 50 to 64 later; households of those on the shielded and youngsters moving into year 7.
However, there are uncertainties around the availability of additional flu vaccines as well as staff to cope with the increased number of patients who required vaccinations.
With all these new challenges in mind, QCS has created a Flu Planning Toolkit to support practices to deliver the extended flu clinics in 2020/21. The toolkit includes checklists that assess multiple areas, such as:
- Priority Groups
- Location of Flu Clinic
- Consumables
- PPE
- Communication
Our Head of Primary Care, Tracy Green and GP Policy Led, Alison Lowerson are also talking about the “2020 Seasonal Flu Programme” on our very own GP Podcast.
