Today is Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.
This year’s theme, “Hand Hygiene for All” focuses on the importance of handwashing equity, which is important to beat the virus and ensure better health outcomes beyond the pandemic.
With micro-organisms being easily transmitted by hands, healthcare staff are likely to be at risk of infections after providing services or from being in a healthcare building. Even travelling to and from work can increase their risk if they use public transport. Therefore, hand washing is crucial in preventing the spread of infection and protecting the service users and staff.
