The Sunday Times – “Cash boost to ease crisis in Social Care”

Some of you may have read a report on Page 2 of last Sunday’s (26 February) Sunday Times headed “Cash boost to ease crisis in Social Care”.

The article reports that The Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer have agreed to tackle the social care crisis with an emergency injection of cash and a pledge of significant reform later this year.

The report says that an announcement will be made in the budget on 8 March and that the intention is to inject hundreds of millions of pounds to local Councils and that the money will be ring fenced to be spent on care.

If this report is true, then it is good news and most particularly that the new money would be ring fenced.

The report also suggests that Mrs May and Mr Hammond are intending to initiate a review in the Autumn to come up with a long-term solution.

This is certainly good news because it is extremely difficult for any provider to plan for the future during such uncertain times.
