I am currently in the process of registering to provide a care at home service. I am a little confused about registration with the Scottish Service Social Council. I have an SVQ2 is that OK for me to register as the manager? I would be grateful for any advice.

Congratulations for starting a Care at Home business, I wish you every success.

The Scottish Social Service Council are regulators for the social care workforce in Scotland and therefore require the workforce to register with them and either have or obtain the necessary qualification commensurate with their role.

You will have responsibilities as an employer and as a social service worker and will have to work within the Code of Practice.

You do not require the qualification to start as the manager of your business, however you would be expected to obtain it. There are two parts to manager qualification. You must have a practice and a management qualification.

Practice –  SVQ Social Services and Healthcare SCQF Level 9.

Management – SVQ Care Services Leadership and Management SCQF Level 10, and any award in management that is certificated at or above SCQF Level 8* (min 60 credits) and mapped against the National Occupational Standards: Leadership and Management for Care Services SCQF 10.
