Hi I’m doing my level 3 in health and social care I’ve been asked to write how GDPR relates to our residents.

Dear S,

Thank you for your question.

GDPR will have no direct impact on residents of care homes but care homes will hold a great deal of confidential information about residents relating to health and social care and all other aspects of their life. The residents and their families would want almost all of that information to be held in absolute confidence by the care home.

So although there will be no direct impact on the resident, the home will have to be able to demonstrate that they have complied with GDPR and that all data is stored securely and is only available to be seen by people who need to see it.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes.

Sheila
