Care cert for existing and bank staff | QCS

Most of the staff employed by our Agency are accredited to NVQ level 3 in H& S Care –hence will have achieved measured standards– Do they not need to go through the new Care Certificate. Is my Interpretation correct?–
Do we need to ensure Bank Staff who have no formal qualifications achieve standards out-lined in the new Care Certificate. Thank You.

Dear Eunice,

First of all I must say that the Care Certificate is not mandatory but will be recognised as good practice.

My second point is that to achieve the certificate all 15 standards must be completed.

Your existing staff that have NVQ level 3 in health and social care will not need to undertake the Care Certificate because everything that is required by the Care Certificate will have been completed already. You might just like to do a quick mapping exercise to reassure yourself that this is the case.

With regard to your bank staff, they will at the least need to have completed appropriate induction training and when you map this against the Care Certificate you may find that they are close to achieving the Care Certificate.

The CQC advice on the Care Certificate is to be found at:

Best wishes.
