Does the CQC have any formal guidelines about the time that residents may be woken up, washed and dressed in the morning please?
Thank you for your question, it is an extremely important question because it is at the heart of delivering a personalised service.
There are no guidelines as such but the views and requests of the resident or their family must be at the heart of the decisions.
I used to own care homes in the 1980s and my residents would either have their breakfast in bed or in their room after they had washed their hands and face.
After they had had their breakfast then washing, bathing and dressing would begin.
Because people woke up at different times and had their breakfast at different times they would want to bath, wash or dress at different times too.
Some people get up very early so they would want to have a bath or a wash earlier than people who woke later. This takes a great deal of the pressure off having everyone getting up at the same time or having breakfast at the same time.
There is absolutely no excuse for services where people are woken and got up very early for the convenience of the staff.
I hope this is helpful.
Best wishes.
