CQC Registration in advance of taking on Home Manager position | QCS

Can a deputy manager register themselves with the CQC, even though they are not seeking to take on a home manager position straight away?

Thank you for your question.

Registration to be the Registered Manager of a care home is processed relating to a particular care home.

It is not possible to be registered with CQC as a Registered Manager without that connection to a particular care home.

If you are thinking that one day you would like to be a Registered Manager then you are absolutely right to be considering in advance how you would meet the criteria to be registered. You will see on the CQC website that they say that when considering an application to be Registered that they will assess the extent to which you have the skills, qualifications and experience necessary to manage the regulated activities you have applied for. As with providers, you will need to understand the requirements of the legislation and be able to explain how you will manage regulated activity in accordance with them, in order to be registered.

As the Deputy Manager, you are obviously gaining the required skills and experience. If you haven’t done so already it would be worthwhile considering if you might require any further qualifications depending on what you have already.
