Hi Sheila,
Is there any guidance on homely remedies for Nursing homes?
Thanks,
Liz
Thank you for your question.
You should have a policy in place probably as part of your general medication policy. The policy will give clear direction on the types of homely medication that can be given etc.
If you have the QCS quality management system then the policy is right there and you can implement that.
Otherwise you will need to write a policy.
CQC’s website does of course carry various advice for nursing homes and care homes about medication.
There is guidance about the regulation at:
http://www.cqc.org.uk/content/regulation-12-safe-care-and-treatment#guidance
There is further advice about what inspectors will be looking for at:
If you put homely remedies in nursing homes into your search engine there are a number of helpful postings that come up including an old one from Exeter PCT:

With best wishes.
