In a nutshell the answer is yes.

Firstly, it is great to see people working in social care wanting to develop so a big congratulations on such a positive decision. Whilst the roles can be hard work they can also be hugely rewarding for you.

However, there are a few things to consider. Depending on your service setting and type you may need to have other training, qualifications and experience in order to apply for any management role.

What does the Job Description and Person Specification say is needed to apply for the role in question?

You may find it useful to map your skills against any person spec and job description by completing a strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats analysis. This approach would put you in a good position to talk about your positive points in any application or interview. This is about selling yourself to any prospective employer and make you stand out from other applicants.

You would also benefit from speaking to your line manager about a career development plan if you do not have one already. Line managers can be a huge support to you through mentoring and guidance to develop you further. With a development plan in place you can plan your road map to gaining relevant experience and qualifications to progress to a Deputy Manager position and beyond.
