In short, there is no reason that you cannot make an application to CQC. As numbers of people you can accommodate is a condition of your registration (seen on your registration certificate as ‘The registered provider may only accommodate a maximum number of XXX service users at XXX’), you will need to apply to vary conditions of registration.

Information about the process can be found in Applying to remove or vary conditions of Registration.

Remember that CQC will thoroughly assess your application and supporting information to make sure you are meeting the regulations for that extra bed. Section 12-15 of the guidance above is particularly helpful in what you can expect through the process.
