What is the CQC definition of personal care?

Personal care is defined as a ‘regulated activity’ by the CQC, which means that if you are providing personal care, then you need to register with them. The CQC defines personal care as ‘supporting people with things like washing, bathing or cleaning themselves, getting dressed or going to the toilet’. This is quite a loose definition, and as such there will be areas where it will be unclear. For this reason, it is always best to approach the CQC for their view and opinion.

It should also be noted that if you are looking at registering a care home, then it is not necessary to register for personal care as a separate regulated activity. It is already covered by the care home activity.
